Transvulcania adidas TERREX modifies the timetable of the Marathon to contribute to the environmental sustainability of the race

This edition of the race has all the usual routes again

The Transvulcania adidas TERREX atmosphere can already be felt on the island of La Palma. In less than a month, the island will become the epicentre of the trail running world in its fourteenth edition. The organisers have just published on their website the main novelties of this renewed edition, in which the start of the Marathon modality will be brought forward in order to continue advancing and contributing to the environmental sustainability of the event.

In addition to the recovery of the usual routes, the main novelty of this Transvulcania adidas TERREX is the start time of the Marathon, which will be brought forward to 6:00 am on Saturday, May 11th and its start will be with boxes, in order to take maximum care of the load of runners in its course through the National Park of La Caldera de Taburiente, avoiding the large concentration that occurred in this area of the National Park.

The rest of the modalities maintain their usual schedules and routes. The Ultra will start at 6:00 a.m. from El Faro de Fuencaliente and the Half Marathon at 7:30 a.m. from the same point in the south of the island. Previously, the explosive Vertical Kilometre will be held, which returns to its usual route and timetable, starting from the Puerto de Tazacorte and finishing at the Torre de El Time. The cut-off times can already be consulted on the website.

In the same line of sustainability, the Organisation maintains the measure of prohibiting the use of walking sticks in the Ultra and Half Marathon categories from the start and up to the Los Canarios refreshment point. Runners may carry poles in their backpack or other support system, but may not carry them in their hands during this first part of the race.

In the Ultra and Marathon categories, the use of poles is restricted from the Pico de Las Ovejas to the Punta de los Roques refuge and also from the Mirador de los Andenes to the Isaac Newton telescope. In addition, the obligatory equipment for the event has also been modified to guarantee the safety of all participants, so those who are going to take part in the event are invited to consult the rules and regulations or the event website in advance.

The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, stresses that the race continues to make progress in measures to protect the territory and to make it possible for participants and the public to enjoy it more, recalling that the Transvulcania adidas Terrex has as its maxim the balance between sustainability, sporting practice and the promotion of the island.
