Local athletes show their positive evolution in all the competitive distances of this fifteenth edition.
The fifteenth Transvulcania adidas TERREX tested the physical and mental capacity of its three thousand participants. The toughest edition of the emblematic race of the Isla Bonita, with rain, wind, low temperatures and slippery routes due to water and mud, did not intimidate the local athletes who once again demonstrated, once again this year, that they are ready to be the main protagonists of the race.
Many vicissitudes had to go through the participants who finished the race, turning their race into an authentic individual epic in which they overcame many difficulties, even achieving times as important as that of Miguel Monterrey, first classified Palmero in the ultra marathon, with a record of 8h.32:15. Esteban Pérez finished second (9h.21:01) and Jairo Ponce de León finished third (9h.39:25).
Among the women, the fastest was Raquel Hernández (12h.19:23), second was María Ruiz Palasí (12h.31:01) and third, Gladys Ortega (13h.32:19).
In the Marathon, among the Palmeras women the winner was Ana Belén Pérez (6h.36:53) ahead of Mari Carmen Villa (6h.45:06) and María García Salguero (7h.10:27) and among the men the first at the finish line was Iván Pérez (4h.50:32), with José Javier Fernández (4h.53:06) and Diego Cammarota (4h.56:18) completing the podium.
Moana Lilly Kehres was again a reference in the half marathon distance. The runner from La Palma, who fought for the victory in the Vertical Climb, made a remarkable effort to repeat last year’s podium but she was just a step away. Moana finished with a time of 2h.49:35 as the first classified runner, with Janine Schott (3h.30:23) and Patricia Bolaños (3h.52:09), second and third.
Francisco Castillo (2h.38:08) was the best runner in this half marathon distance ahead of José Carlos Brito (2h.52:14) and Gabriel Gómez (2h.55:49).
The president of the Cabildo Insular de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, wanted to make a “special mention” to the local runners who know every corner of the island “like the back of their hand” and who year after year “join this trail running festival”.
In this sense, Rodriguez said that “the contribution of our local runners to Transvulcania is incalculable and fundamental” and emphasized that “they are the true soul of this race. They are the natural ambassadors of our land, those who with their effort and passion spread their love for La Palma to all participants who come from outside”.
The Transvulcania adidas TERREX is organised by the Cabildo Insular de La Palma through the public company SODEPAL, with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Department of Tourism and Promotur with its brand ‘Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida’, as well as the companies 226ERS, Hotel H10 Taburiente Playa, Hotel La Palma Princess, Hotel Meliá La Palma, Fred.
