The two-time Trail World Champion and the two-time runner-up in the Trail Long World Championships bolster an all-star lineup for the flagship event on Isla Bonita.
The organizers of the 2026 Transvulcania adidas continue to build a top-tier field with the confirmation of two of the most sought-after names on the international trail running scene: France’s Blandine L’Hirondel and Italy’s Andreas Reiterer. Both athletes are joining the lineup for the Ultramarathon, the flagship 73-kilometer race set to take place on May 9 between the Fuencaliente Lighthouse and Los Llanos de Aridane.
Blandine L’Hirondel (UTMB Index: 791), two-time Trail World Champion (2019 and 2022) and 2022 European Champion—having won the title in La Palma (Reventón El Paso)—is in top form. On October 16, she achieved one of the major milestones of her career by winning La Diagonale des Fous (Le Grand Raid De La Réunion), the legendary ultra-marathon covering 175 kilometers and over 10,000 meters of elevation gain, with a time of 27:26:09 that also earned her eighth place in the overall standings.
Shortly before that, on August 29, he narrowly missed the podium at the grueling CCC race of the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc, where he finished in a commendable fourth place in the 101-kilometer race between Courmayeur and Chamonix.
Already in 2026, L’Hirondel has kicked off the season in style by winning the Salomon EcoTrail Paris – Trail 35 km on March 22, a result that confirms his excellent form ahead of the event in La Palma.
On the men’s side, Transvulcania adidas has signed Andreas Reiterer, a member of La Sportiva. His UTMB Index of 907 points places him among the absolute elite of the global trail running scene, backed by an impressive list of achievements that includes silver medals at the 2022 and 2023 Long Distance Trail Running World Championships.
Reiterer arrives in La Palma on the heels of one of the standout performances of his career. On March 21, he secured a brilliant second-place finish at the Chianti Ultra Trail by UTMB (120 km), with a time of 10:06:16, trailing only France’s Thomas Cardin and finishing ahead of the 2024 UTMB winner, Vincent Bouillard.
Reiterer is heading to Transvulcania eager to make his debut on the volcanic trails of La Palma and test himself on a course that marks a turning point in any trail runner’s career.
A world-class lineup
The additions of L’Hirondel and Reiterer round out the star-studded lineup for the 2026 adidas Transvulcania Ultramarathon. Reiterer will face off against heavyweights such as Sweden’s Petter Engdahl (winner of the 2022 edition) and Dmitri Mitiaev, who finished second in the 2018, 2019, and 2024 editions.
In the women’s category, the lineup features the highly anticipated return of Swedish legend Emelie Forsberg—winner in 2013 and 2015, who is returning to Isla Bonita ten years later—and Ekaterina Mitiaeva, runner-up in the 2025 Ultramarathon.
