A record-breaking team of 50 professionals and more than 30 cameras will provide live coverage of the 2026 adidas Transvulcania

Televisión Canaria will broadcast live for the first time starting early in the morning, offering free-to-air coverage of the Half Marathon’s finish line. The coverage, produced by Live Broadcast Streaming (LBS) on behalf of Sodepal, will feature four students from La Palma as part of a strong commitment to local talent.

The 2026 adidas Transvulcania will feature one of the most ambitious broadcasts in its history. The race organizers, led by the Cabildo de La Palma through Sodepal, will take on the challenge of coordinating nine hours of uninterrupted coverage from the heart of the event, Plaza de España in Los Llanos de Aridane, in an operation that will mobilize a team of 50 professionals and an unprecedented technical arsenal to bring the race into homes around the world—an edition that is expected to be the most competitive yet across all categories.

The production faces a unique challenge: transforming the entire island into a television set, given its rugged terrain and areas with limited coverage, which require meticulous technological planning and strict environmental protocols.

More than 30 cameras and 20 4G/5G backpacks so you don’t miss a thing

At the heart of the system are more than 30 manned cameras strategically located along the route, combining fixed units at key points such as the Fuencaliente Lighthouse, Las Tablas, Los Canarios, Las

Deseadas, El Pilar, El Reventón, Pico de la Cruz, Roque de los Muchachos, Time, Tazacorte, and the finish line in Los Llanos de Aridane, with a sophisticated mobile tracking system to keep the race leaders in sight.

In total, HD cameras and remote units will be deployed, along with 4 to 5 drones for aerial shots, a camera unit on e-bikes coordinated by the Spanish Downhill Champion (2019 and 2020) Adal Capote, motorcyclists with cameras, as well as camera runners led by La Palma-based rider Edwin Camacho, who placed third in Sierra Nevada, capable of keeping pace with the elite on the most spectacular stages. All of this will be supported by 20 4G/5G backpacks, 6 satellite antennas, point-to-point links, an EVS-style replay system, 6 SDI encoders, and 4 in-house servers, with two production control rooms in La Palma and a centralized remote control room in Tenerife.

Televisión Canaria, live from the start of the Half Marathon

The organization also offers multiple ways to follow the race from anywhere in the world and on any device.

One of the major highlights of this year’s event is that Televisión Canaria will broadcast the race live for the first time, starting early in the morning, allowing viewers to watch the Half Marathon’s conclusion as the runners cross the finish line. The DTT signal will be available live from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., while Canarias Play (RTVC’s new OTT service) and the RTVC Sports channel on YouTube will broadcast the Vertical Kilometer and Ultra events in their entirety.

In addition to this coverage, Transvulcania will offer official live streaming via its own channels, with separate feeds for the finish line (Los Llanos), Tazacorte, and the El Pilar Refuge. It will also feature Spanish and English versions with a team of commentators led by Nacho Feliciano and Albert Jorquera in Spanish—which will be broadcast on RTVC—and Martín Gafuri and Majell Backhausen in English.

A firm commitment to the students of La Palma

Beyond technical expertise, this edition highlights the human element and the generational transition within La Palma’s audiovisual sector. LBS has brought four young students from La Palma onto its team; they will join aspiring professionals from the island’s School of Art, stationed at strategic points along the route such as Las Deseadas, El Pilar, and La Hilera.

World-class in all disciplines

The event’s organization is on par with the high level of competition that will be on display. The 2026 adidas Transvulcania once again brings together the cream of the crop of international trail running, with an extremely high competitive level across all its disciplines—Ultra, Marathon, Half Marathon, and Vertical Kilometer—where elite athletes from the world’s major circuits will compete alongside the best runners from the Canary Islands. The broadcast will kick off with the Vertical Kilometer on Thursday, May 7 (4:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.) and reach its highlight with the Ultra, which will begin at 5:40 a.m. at the Fuencaliente Lighthouse and conclude in Los Llanos de Aridane at 3:00 p.m.

The adidas Transvulcania is organized by the Island Council of La Palma through the public company SODEPAL, with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Department of Tourism and Promotur with its brand “Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida,” as well as the companies adidas, Hotel H10 Taburiente Playa, Hotel La Palma Princess, Hotel Meliá La Palma, Fred. Olsen Express, Cicar, Spar La Palma, Coca-Cola, Libbys, Isola, and Nutrinovex.
