A few days ago we warned about the very little availability of places left at the Half Marathon. The last remaining race numbers were allocated this morning, so registrations are now officially closed. Next week we will proceed as we did with the Ultramarathon (20th December) and the Marathon (19th of January). That is, we will open an appeals period for those prospective runners with unconfirmed places and after that we will put up a waiting list.
It is the brand new recruit for Salomon Spain, after joining the team a couple of weeks ago. He has just presented his calendar for 2015 and we are glad to say that he has included Transvulcania in his bucket list. In fact, the Ultramarathon of La Palma will be his first race of the ISF Ultra World Series, to be followed among others by the Mont Blank 80k and the European Ultra Sky Championship (Ice Trail Tarentaise, France).
It is worth remembering that Villa got a 9th place in Transvulcania 2014, just after the now confirmed Manuel Merillas and Timothy Olson and just before his brand mate Dakota Jones (also confirmed for 2015). His most recent triumph took place in Transcandamia (León, Northern Spain), barely two weeks ago.

Manuel Merillas is one of Spain's most promising runners (he is just 22). So much so that in fact he is the current title holder of the national FEDME Championship. If the top guns announced yesterday (Hernando, Dakota and Olson) are the finest of their respective teams (Adidas, Salomon International and The North Face), Merillas will try to grab at least a podium for Mammut. Things are heating up.
If you registered for the Marathon before the closure of applications (18th January 2015), you can now check if your place is "CONFIRMADA" ("confirmed", in Spanish). Please note that after the appeal period ended on the 29th of January, only confirmed places will be shown in this database.
Three months ahead of the big day, the heavyweights of international trail running are already securing their place in Transvulcania. The confirmed male athletes so far allow for a redo of the transatlantic duel the race is well known for. On one side, Luis Alberto Hernando (absolute winner in 2014, runner-up in 2013 and ISF Ultrarunning World Champion). On the other, Dakota Jones (absolute winner in 2012) and Timothy Olson (twice top-ten finisher).
Just a few days after announcing that the Marathon (44 km) registrations were above 90%, the last remaining places are now gone and the race is not admitting new entries. As we did with the Ultramarathon, we will soon publish a checklist and open a period of appeals for the unconfirmed places, closely followed by the waiting list.
On the other hand, the Half Marathon (24 km) is also on the brink of closure and will soon be taking the same path. It is urgent for prospective runners to register as soon as possible, in order to secure their place.
