RedIRIS, the scientific data network managed by the public company Red.es (Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism) and participated by 450 institutions all over the country, will support the online video streaming of the Plátano de Canarias Transvulcania 2015. Thanks to this partnership, the live feed will be enhanced in 2015 to include the emblematic start of the race by the lighthouse at Fuencaliente.
The deal involves the IAC (Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias), as an affiliated institution with RedIRIS and responsible for the management of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory. Thanks to the fiber optics network which gives support to the scientific installations of the Observatory, the video streaming will be able to include a key point in the race, usually decisive for its end result.
Additionally, the IT Unit of the Cabildo de La Palma will enhance the coverage, providing access to the network owned by the government of the island, supporting it with self-powered webcams and generally assisting the technical deployment. TV Canaria (the public TV station of the Canary Islands) will also broadcast the central hours of the event.
